Wilson A Bentley, Snowflake Man
The first ever photos of snow crystals by a US farmer, Wilson A Bentley, taken over a century ago will go on sale for the first time in New York. The Snowflake Man, as he was to become known as, was credited with capturing the first single snowflakes on camera using a technique called photomicrography still used today.
He wanted to show the sheer beauty of the flakes so everyone could appreciate them; each snowflake a masterpiece of design and no one design ever repeated. He took 5,000 amazing jewel-like images, some of which can be seen in this online gallery.
